The Divine Chain® — Welcome to Web4: Vertical Integration, Artificial Intelligence, and the Intelligent Supply Chain transforms supply chain management from something students merely study into something they can observe moving in real time.

Developed as part of Dr. Justin Goldston’s Philosophy in Action framework for his Visiting Assistant Professor work in Supply Chain at Rollins College, this volume documents a live publishing supply chain from the creation of an idea through digital production, marketplace distribution, physical manufacturing, and ultimately delivery.

This is The Living Supply Chain.

Rather than beginning with a finished case study and reconstructing what happened afterward, The Divine Chain® follows the system while it is moving. The manuscript itself becomes the product. Metadata becomes supply-chain data. Publishing platforms become infrastructure. Artificial intelligence becomes an augmentation layer. Printing becomes manufacturing. The marketplace becomes the transaction node. The package becomes physical inventory. The front porch becomes the final-mile destination.

The result is a supply-chain case that exists simultaneously as book, product, transaction, experiment, evidence, and teaching artifact.

The experiment asks a deceptively simple question:

How quickly can an idea move through an intelligent, digitally coordinated supply chain and become a physical object delivered to a human being?

The clock begins with the idea.

Traditional supply-chain education often examines yesterday’s supply chain.

Philosophy in Action examines today’s supply chain while it is still moving.

The Divine Chain therefore becomes a living laboratory for exploring the transition from traditional enterprise systems toward intelligent, AI-enabled and increasingly agentic supply networks.

ERP organized the enterprise.

Data connected the enterprise.

AI is beginning to help the enterprise sense, reason, predict, coordinate, and act.

But greater autonomy creates a corresponding requirement for greater governance.

That leads to several governing principles developed throughout The Divine Chain®:

What should an intelligent system be authorized to do—and how can its actions be traced, governed, audited, and revoked?

THE ROLLINS COLLEGE CONNECTION

For the Rollins College classroom, this is not intended to function simply as another textbook.

It is a live supply-chain object.

Students can study the same artifact moving through publishing, commerce, manufacturing, logistics, AI, governance, and information systems. They can interrogate where value is created, where information becomes inventory, where latency appears, where control resides, and where human judgment must remain accountable.

That is Philosophy in Action.

The classroom does not stand outside the supply chain looking in.

The classroom enters the chain.
